Anxiety Is an Invitation to Understand What Ails Our Psyche

The complaints of anxiety are often much more than a feeling of unease. It is a communication from the psyche that it is grappling with something quite complex, something that is difficult to articulate.
The messages of anxiety are important and demand attention. This is perhaps why it lingers in our body — a constant sense of worry, unease, and dread — asking us to turn inwards, to listen, understand, and explore possibilities that seem unfathomable in the present moment.
It is natural that we resist the invitation. We try to minimize, avoid, or soothe our anxiety — hoping it will go away, that it is nothing of importance, or that things will sort themselves out. But it doesn't work, does it? The anxiety always returns — or we spend a lot of time trying to create a distance from it.
However daunting, anxiety is not something to be feared or avoided. In fact, it is rich with meaning and potential. When we start to develop a conscious relationship with our anxiety, it helps us in growth, discovery, and self-actualization. Anxiety helps us to think about what is not working and how to evolve into a more authentic version of ourselves.
By undertaking these psychic tasks, we push and eventually broaden our psychological capacity. Anxiety gives us the momentum to do the work that this kind of transformation requires. Through this process, we can tap into deeper, more expansive avenues of human experience — pushing the limits of what can be known and achieved in our individual and collective life journey.
